Route 4 – By Santa Maria Maior and Santa Clara

This is the route with the least accessible path for people in wheelchairs, since part of the streets, besides their natural inclination, have a type 3 floor. For those with more conditioned mobility, we propose the use of one accessible transport.

This route has 4 stages with several monuments and points of interest to visit.

The first stage is located next to the Cathedral. Here, in addition to the Cathedral and the Santo António Church, we have the Aljube, the Roman Theatre and Santo António Museums.

Continuing up the hill, following the tram line, we arrive at Largo das Portas do Sol - the second stage.

Here we can visit São Tiago and Santa Luzia churches (Largo de Santa Luzia) and the Museum of Decorative Arts. But the essential thing is to sit on one of the terraces and admire the Tagus and the streets and houses of Alfama.  Largo das Portas do Sol was built halfway up the hillside with fabulous views over the Tagus River and São Vicente Hill (Graça). At Portas dos Sol Café we have a terrace adapted for disabled people, with one accessible bathroom, and one of the best belvederes in Lisbon!

After this pause, we continue towards Graça and the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen belvedere - the third stage. Here, besides the view, we can admire Graça Church and a small garden on your right with resting benches.

We leave for Santa Clara! Our destination is already close by. At the beginning of Rua Voz do Operário, next to the fire department, we have a public accessible bathroom. At the end of the street, we look to the left and see the imposing São Vicente de Fora Monastery, to its left, passing through the São Vicente arch, we enter Campo de Santa Clara that extends by the slope towards the Tagus. We have reached the last stage, the 4th of this route. Next to Santa Clara we can visit São Vincent de Fora monastery and Santa Engrácia Church.

On Wednesdays and Saturdays, we can lose ourselves in   Ladra fair, the flea market! There are good chances you will be able to find something to remember later! Next to the Boto Machado Garden we have resting benches, an esplanade and an adapted bathroom.

And so, ends this tour!
